Dan Truett Thornton, 76, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 4, 2003 at home after a brief illness from diabetes.Funeral: 2 pm, Tuesday, October 7, at White's Azle Funeral Home Chapel. Burial: Azleland Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 pm, Monday at White's Azle Funeral Home. Dan was born May 16, 1927 in Vernon to the late Robert L. and Gertrude Norman Thornton. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed playing "Moon" and going fishing. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Dan served proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in the U.S. Marines during Korean Conflict. He was a life member of the VFW Post 2137 in Azle where he served as Commander three times and was All American in 1983-1984. In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by a son Stevie Bob; brothers, Norman Thornton, Billy Thornton; and sisters, Isabel Horn, Marie Farrell and Betty Jean Taylor.Survivors: Wife of 46 years, Dorothy M. Thornton; daughters and sons-in-law, Beth Cinnamon and husband, David of Azle, Anna Schlaepfer and husband, Dave of Springtown, Prissy Thomason and husband, Mike of Azle; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert L. Thornton Jr., and wife, Chris of Granbury, Riley Thornton and wife, Irene of Camp Verde, AZ; grandchildren, Cindy Sutton and husband, Chip of Victoria, Randy Harris of Springtown, Bill Cinnamon, Bobby Matteson and wife, Heather, all of Azle, Stephanie Forester and husband, Aaron of Plano; great-grandchildren, Austin Sutton of Victoria, Stephanie and Kathleen Matteson of Azle; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.
