Arvill Gene Newby, 67, passed away Monday, October 20, 2003 in Fort Worth.Funeral: 10 a.m, Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Springtown Church of Christ. Burial: Springtown Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at White's Funeral Home Chapel. Arvill Newby was born in the Opal Community of Wise County to Howard and Oma B. Newby. He graduated from Springtown High School in 1954 and later from Texas A&M with a B.S. in agriculture in 1958. Arvill entered the U.S. Air Force as a commissioned officer and served in Korea as an aircraft controller. He obtained the rank of Captain and left active duty in 1961. Arvill returned to Springtown to operate his dairy farm while working full time as a staff writer for the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram. He taught six years in Springtown Schools. From 1969-2003 Arvill was a real estate developer. He developed 27 subdivisions in Parker and Wise counties and built approximately 460 custom built homes. He was preceded in death by, brother, Lee L. Newby; sister, Iris Leone Newby; and father, Howard H. Newby. Survivors: Sons, Mark Newby and wife, Diane of Flower Mound, Stan Newby of Carrolton, Shawn Newby and wife, Francis of Springtown, Craig Newby of New York City, NY; mother, Oma B. Newby of Azle; sister, Margaret Swanzy and husband, Eddy of Richardson; four grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends; and special friend Colleen Hendrix.
