Tolbert Jack Vereen, 78, of Poolville, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2003.The son of Emery and Lillian Vereen, he was born June 23, 1925, in Cleburne, Texas. He served with the United States Marine Corps during World War II and served in the Naval Reserve. Jack earned degrees from Texas Christian University and North Texas State University. Jack was a life long educator and an ordained United Methodist Minister. He was known for his quick wit and generous spirit. He taught in several communities including Poolville, White Settlement, and Weatherford. He also served as a trustee on the Poolville School Board.Jack served many churches including Covington, Temple Hall, Springtown, Poolville, Paradise, Silver Creek, and Garvin. Over the years, Jack "retired" many times but always felt called to return to the pulpit.Jack was passionate about education, evangelism, and service to the community. He will be sorely missed by all. Survivors include wife of 53 years, Louise Vereen of Poolville; daughter, Deborah Alexander and husband, Mike of Rowlett; daughter, Anne Vereen of Poolville; son, Dr. Lowell Vereen of Texarkana, AR; son, Charlie Vereen of Weatherford; and six grandchildren, Travis Alexander, Celeste Vereen, Justin Alexander, Brian Vereen, Emanuel Windham, and Angelica Windham.
