Freddy Richard Cox, 82, died Friday, December 19, 2003 at a Weatherford nursing center of complications of Parkinson's.Freddy was born December 10, 1921 in Garner to Revis and Nellie Phillips Cox. Freddy was a proud Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. During the war he was attached to the USN Bombing Squadron Six, serving on a number of aircraft carriers in the Pacific including the Enterprise, Hancock and the Intrepid. He was called back into duty during the Korean War and was attached to Navy Intelligence in Dallas.Freddy was a graduate of the Weatherford High School Class of 1940 and was attending Weatherford College when war was declared. During a five-day leave in 1942, he married Mary Ann Ross. He retired from Employers Insurance in 1986 after thirty-three years of service and was one of their top salesmen.Freddy loved football, especially the Texas Longhorns. One of his prize possessions was a football autographed by Darrell Royal.He was a very devoted family man who loved his family, his home, and his pets. Freddy was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Darwin Cox.The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Holland Lake Nursing Center and Covenant Hospice. Freddy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Ann; daughter, Charm Perez and husband, Isaac; grandchildren, Lauren and Preston Perez; brother, J.T. Cox and wife, Irene; sister-in-law, Alice Cox; and several nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Freddy's name to Couts Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund, Parker County Meals on Wheels, or the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc.
