Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at White's Azle Funeral Home. Memorials: May be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Building Fund or Lutheran Women's Missionary League, 1313 SE Parkway, Azle 76020. "Al" was born on Sept. 17, 1923 in Oelwein, Iowa. He was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He retired after 35 years of service in engineering design with Convair/General Dynamics in San Diego and Fort Worth. Al and Valerie shared 48 years of marriage and devoted their lives to their four children and 17 grandchildren. He was an active member of his church and lived the last 40 years in the Metroplex area. After retirement, he continued to pursue his passion for flying by building and flying his own airplane and was a member EAA. He fulfilled his wish of flying on his 80th birthday. Al's humble, common-sense approach to life was an incredible lesson for us all. He is the road our family traveled that has made all the difference. And his name is certainly written in the Lamb's Book of Life - well done, good and faithful servant. After 80 years here, we had to let him go. Godspeed, our wonderful and gracious husband and father. We love you dearly and know you have a warm embrace waiting for us when we join you in heaven one day. He was preceded in death by his sister, Delores Taylor, and brother, LaVern McInnis. Survivors: His wonderful wife, Valerie; loving daughter, Rosanne Schillings and husband, John; dutiful sons, Noel and his wife, Julie, Lee and his wife, Tammy, Alan and his wife, Kelly; 11 granddaughters; six grandsons; and sister, Dorothy Rohrick.
