Isaac B. (I.B.) Hand, prominent attorney and life-long resident of Weatherford, Texas, died Saturday, December 27, 2003 after a short illness.Born July 10, 1918, in Ranger, Texas, he was educated in the Weatherford School Systems, graduated from Weatherford College, and received degrees in Business Administration and Law from the University of Texas at Austin in June, 1940.After graduating from the University he entered the Federal Bureau of Investigation and spent the next five years as a Special Agent. During this period, he met and married Helen Miller of Washington, Pennsylvania. Upon returning to Weatherford in 1946, I.B. was elected District Attorney and served in that capacity for four years before entering the private practice of law in Weatherford. He was an active member and served as President of the Parker County Bar Association. He was member of the State Bar of Texas for over sixty years and served as a member of the State Bar Grievance and State Bar Prosecuting Committees.I.B. was actively involved in numerous areas of public service, including Chairman of the Parker County Red Cross, Chairman of the Parker County District Boy Scouts of America, District Director of the Girl Scouts of America, and served as President and as Secretary of the Weatherford Lions Club. He served on the Water and Electric Board of the City of Weatherford for six years, as a member of the City Commission of the City of Weatherford, and as board member, Vice President, and President of the Parker County Hospital District for 23 years. He was a member of the Knights of the Pythias Lodge and the Masonic Bodies of Weatherford. I.B. has been a member of the board of directors of Texas Bank for over 25 years.He was honored by the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce as Outstanding Citizen for 1984-85. Weatherford College recognized him as distinguished alumni in 1995 and with the Carlos Hartnett Memorial Award in 1998.I.B. Hand was an elder and a lifelong member of the Grace First Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Helen Miller Hand, his daughter, Nancy Readinger, and his son, William (Bill) Hand. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Carol Sue and Bob Ritter, and two grandchildren, Alexis and Jeffrey Readinger.Memorials in lieu of flowers: Weatherford College Foundation for the I.B.
