Olen Melvin Hurtt, 74, a retired postal clerk, was welcomed into the waiting arms of Jesus on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer and a stroke. Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday at Northwest Church of Christ. Burial: Azleland Cemetery in Reno. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at White's Azle Funeral Home. Melvin was born Aug. 1, 1929, in Hugo, Okla., to Chater and Myrtle Hurtt. In 1951 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country aboard the USS D.A. Munro during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged with several commendations, he worked as a machinist until joining the U.S. Postal Service in 1972. He retired in 1992 after 20 years of service. Melvin was a charter member of Heritage Church of Christ. Melvin was a loyal and devoted husband to his wife, Juanita, for 42 years. He was a loving and supportive Daddy to his four children and a doting paw-paw to his grandchildren. He gave everyone the benefit of the doubt and never met a stranger. No one ever met him who did not love him. His infectious smile and laugh will never be forgotten. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Louis, Ronnie, and Jerry Hurtt. Survivors: Wife, Juanita Hurtt of Azle; children, Tony Hurtt and wife, Sally, of Rhome, Larry Hurtt and wife, Angela, of Azle, Susan Randall and husband, George, of White Settlement and Cindy Hurtt and husband, Tim Savage, of River Oaks; grandchildren, Crystal Randall, Shawn Randall, Heather Randall, Bailey Savage, Jessica Hurtt, Cory Fanning and Kari Sims; great-grandchild, Dakota Fanning; brothers, Clifton Hurtt and wife, Harriett, of Mount Pleasant and Roland Hurtt and wife, Darlene, of Fort Worth; sister, Margaret Bryant of Azle; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
