Mattie Carmen Glover, 86, died Sunday, February 15, 2004. Mattie was born to Barnie and Belle Shaw on June 21, 1917 in Garner, Texas. She grew up and lived in Aledo her entire life. Mattie was a faithful member of the Aledo First Baptist Church where she taught children in Sunday School for over 40 years. She and a couple of friends were instrumental in having the original First Baptist Church named as a Historical site. She loved her church and her church family. She also loved Aledo. In fact, she wrote a book about the history of Aledo. Mattie was a graduate of Aledo High School and was very active in the Aledo PTA while her children were in school. She was a past-president of the Aledo PTA and was given a Life Time Membership Award by the Texas Congress of PTAs. She worked for many years as a cashier for the Aledo School and retired at age 84.Mattie loved to travel but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. Family was the most important thing to her. Her hobby was quilting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Glover and brothers B.J. Shaw and Alvis Shaw. Survivors include sons Fred Glover of Aledo, Richard Glover and wife, Jo of Fort Worth; grandchildren Gregg Glover and wife Tracy of Temple, Melinda Glover of Charlotte, SC, Lindsey Glover of Lubbock, Jana Glover Cocanougher and husband, Stuart of Fort Worth, Richard Glover, Jr. of Austin, Jeff Glover of Fort Worth; great grandchildren McKynna Cocanougher, Greyson Cocanougher and Macy Lynn Glover; sister, Verna Bearden and her husband Dub of Aledo; sisters-in-law Billie Shaw Bell of Aledo, Merle Bennett of Weatherford, LaVerne Glover of Aledo; numerous nieces and nephews that she considered her children too.Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at the Aledo First Baptist Church. The family will receive guests from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at White's Funeral Home in Weatherford.
