Laverne Elizabeth Springer

Laverne Elizabeth Springer, 84, died Monday, February 16, 2004 in Weatherford, Texas.The daughter of Nena Whitley Wasson and Drew C. Wasson, Laverne was born September 13, 1919 in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Laverne married Roy M. Springer on December 27, 1941.She graduated from East Texas State University in Commerce in 1950 and earned her masters degree from Texas Christian University in 1971. Mrs. Springer taught for 31 years, the last 25 years at T.W. Stanley Elementary and Bill Wright Elementary in Weatherford. She taught first and second grade and was a reading specialist.Her hobbies were quilting and genealogy. She was a member of the Grace First Presbyterian Church.Roy Springer, her husband for 40 years, preceded her in death in 1981.Laverne is survived by one son, Drew Springer and wife, Linda of Colleyville; one daughter, Martha Springer of Weatherford; three grandsons, Drew Springer, Jr. and wife, Lydia of Muenster, Mark Springer and wife, Jackie of Midlothian, David Brooks of Shouthlake; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Drew C. Wasson, Jr. and wife, Lorraine of Stuart, Fla.The family is very grateful to the caregivers of Windsor House and to Dr. Anesia Garmon.Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2004 at White's Chapel of Memories in Weatherford. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Weatherford. The family will receive guests form 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at White's Funeral Home, Weatherford. Memorials may be given to the Kate Rieves Scholarship Fund at the Grace First Presbyterian Church, 606 Mockingbird Lane, Weatherford, Texas 76086.
