R. Howard Harmer, 72, returned home to the arms of his Loving Heavenly Father Wednesday, May 26, 2004 surrounded by his wife and all seven of his chidren.Funeral: 12:00 pm, Tuesday, June 1, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial: Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 pm Sunday at White's Funeral Home. R. Howard Harmer was born, in Salt Lake City, Utah, December 4, 1931, the only son and fifth child of Roy Howard Harmer and Winnifred Edith Daw Harmer of Salt Lake City. He was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and La Canada, California. R. Howard Harmer filled a three-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to the Eastern States Mission. He proudly served his country stationed in Ft. Lewis, Wa and the Nike Missle Site in Pittsburg, PA. R. Howard Harmer attended and played football at USC, attended Mt. San Antonio College, graduated from Clairmont's Men College, received a Juris Doctor from the University of Utah School of Law, and received his Masters Degree in Business Economics at UCLA. Mr. Harmer practiced Contract and Corporate Law in Utah and Hawaii, with the SEC and in private practice. He wrote and reviewed opinion for Chief Justice Clement Schinn, presiding Judge of California Court of Appeals. Mr. Harmer was Economic Director with the development arm of the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he wrote the final proposal to the Atomic Energy Commission for the Linear Accelerator/Super Conductor. He was also Director of Economic Development with Chicago Association of Industry and Commerce, where he received awards for his work in establishing equal and open housing as well as commercial real estate development expansion. R. Howard Harmer received an Honorary Doctorate of Aerospace from NASA. While in Chicago. Illinois and California, he worked undercover on sting operations with the FBI. Mr. Harmer developed and acted as CEO of the "BumbleBerry" Company, a chain of restaurants in California and the Western United States. He set up his own business development and venture capital firm, where he developed Belmarin Keys Yacht Properties. R. Howard Harmer retired in 1990 to Washington State, where he and his wife were called to serve a second mission for the LDS Church in the Rochester, NY Palmyra district Visitor Centers. In life he was the perfect constitution of father, grandfather, brother, son, and husband. Overshadowing all of his worldly accomplishments, was his absolute dedication to his family and the missionary work of the Lord. To his last moments, he kept the perfect sweetness of his character, worrying about others more than self and wholly submissive to the will of his Heavenly Father.Survivors: Wife of 47 years, Cora-Beth Hassell Harmer; children, Howard and Michelle Harmer of Cedar Hills, Utah, Cynthia and David Findlay of Weatherford, Shauna Harmer of Weatherford, Sarah and Chris Otte of San Antonio, Jon-Paul and Kimberly Harmer of Weatherford, Lorence and Elizabeth Harmer of Eden Prairie, MN(whose hearts are in Texas), Sheryl and Jason Landstrom of Weaherford; 14 grandchildren (and 24 on the way hopefully); two sisters; Marjorie Reid and Jerry and Don Urry, both of Salt Lake City. UT; and by best friend, the Honorable Stephen Anderson of Salt Lake City, UT.
