Gregory Lance Welch Sr., 51, of Millsap, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2004 in a Fort Worth hospital.Greg was born September 26, 1952 in Midland, Texas. He was raised on a ranch in Roscoe, Texas and graduated from Roscoe High School in 1971. He attended Western Texas Junior College in Snyder, Texas and was a member of the Rodeo Team.Greg's lifelong love was training and showing cutting horses. He won the National Horse Cutting Futurity in 1991 and the N.C.H.A. World Championship title in 1982. He served as N.C.H.A. president in 2002-2003. He was a member of the N.C.H.A. Riders Hall of Fame and the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame.Greg was a much- loved supporter of young cutters and was always looking for a child to hold in his hands. Greg was a wonderful father and his two greatest loves of all were his children, Lance of Austin and Whitney, who preceded him in death in 1998.Survivors include son, Lance Welch; mother, Ginger Welch; father and stepmother, Buster and Sheila Welch; brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Dixie Welch; sisters, Ruth Ann Siebers, Georgia Welch; stepbrother and wife, Dolan and Becky Morris; stepsister and husband, Nina and David Findley; and numerous nieces and nephews.Funeral services are scheduled 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at the First Baptist Church of Weatherford, 221 W. Church St., Weatherford. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Millsap, Texas. The family will receive guests from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at White's Funeral Home, Weatherford. Memorial contributions may be made to N.C.H.A. Youth Association, 260 Bailey Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas 76107, Horseman for Christ, P.O. Box 728, Archer City, Texas 76351.
