Virgil Theodore Seaberry, Jr., 80, passed away Saturday, October 23, 2004 in Weatherford.Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at First Methodist Church in Eastland. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, gifts and donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the Nancy Seaberry Frost Arts Endowment, 6337 Locke Ave., Ft. Worth, TX 76116.Virgil Theodore Seaberry, Jr. was born on January 26, 1924, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas to Virgil T. Seaberry, Sr., and Cleo Slaughter Seaberry of Eastland. After graduating from Eastland High School in 1941, he attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society. He interrupted his studies to serve his country during World War II as an officer in the Navy in the South Pacific. In 1950, he received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence and returned to Eastland to practice law in the firm established by his father, Turner & Seaberry, known today as Turner, Seaberry, & Warford. Virgil married Ella Downs Miller, a native of Albany on September 26, 1953. They lived in Eastland for fifty years, leaving their indelible mark both as a couple and as individuals. The focus of Virgil's career was service to others, be it his friends and clients who depended on him for advice and support, or his community at large, where he devoted time and effort as City Commissioner, Mayor, both member and president of the Eastland Independent School District's board of governors, and board member of the Eastland Industrial Foundation. Every aspect of his life's work reflected his commitment as an advocate for his family, his neighbors, his city, and his country. Virgil is preceded in death by his parents; and his sister and best friend, Nancy Seaberry Frost. Local arrangements in Weatherford were handled by White's Funeral Home in conjunction with Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland.Survivors: Wife of 51 years, Ella Downs Miller Seaberry; children, Judy Downs Seaberry and Nancy Seaberry Smith; grandchildren, April Seaberry Hickman and John Edward Seaberry; great-granddaughter, Ella Hickman; niece and nephews, Christopher Frost Whiddon, Cyrus Seaberry Frost, James Stewart Frost, and John Matthew Frost; great-nieces and nephews, Adam, Matthew, and Cy Crum, Sarah Crum, Emily Kern, Russell Frost, and Carly and Tracy Frost; cousins, Melba Wilkes Puryear and Carolyn Seaberry Quinn; and a host of friends and clients whose lives were enriched by this wonderful man.
