Bud Schmetzer, 72, went to be with the Lord Jesus on Monday, December 6, 2004. He will be deeply missed by his countless friends and family members. Bud is survived by his wife Sue, of Azle; daughter Sara Medlyn of Arizona; son Bill of Colorado; daughter Kim Hughes of Missouri; son David of California; daughter Joie Frontz of Texas; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, two sisters, and many nieces and nephews. Bud was born on August 20, 1932 in Parma, Ohio.. He served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955 in Exp. Squadron ZX11. He married his high school sweetheart Lucretia "Sue" Frank on September 1, 1951 at Jacksonville, Florida. Bud was so full of love and life that on his 50th wedding anniversary, he sang a love song to Sue and danced "an old soft shoe" for her after they renewed their vows. Bud spent 35 years doing OTR truck driving. After retirement he spent the last 20 years of his life in ministry for the Lord, and was ordained in 1996. He had been an Azle resident since 1997. When he passed away he had been on the staff at Son Shine Ministries. He worshipped at Outreach of Love Church in Weatherford and was an active member of the Azle Ministerial Alliance. Bud was an avid bird watcher and fisherman. He had a great bass voice and sang barbershop quartet. He loved telling stories to children of all ages, and jokes to make people laugh. He was a man of integrity and strength, who loved his family and the Lord Jesus passionately. He had a great desire to see souls saved. He will be remembered as a tireless servant who would sacrifice whatever was necessary to help his family and friends. A memorial service and celebration of Bud's life will be held on Sunday afternoon, December 12, 2004 at 4 PM at First United Methodist Church in Azle.
