Fleta Estelle Savage Slade, 83, of Weatherford passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at a Fort Worth Hospital.Fleta Slade was born November 6, 1921 in the Brock community of Parker County, Texas. She was the third of seven children of Jim and Idella Savage. She grew up in Brock where she attended school and played basketball in the late thirties. In the late forties, she worked at Buster's Cafe' in Weatherford. Fleta married J.P. Slade in 1948. The family moved to Mississippi in 1955. Fleta returned to Weatherford in 1973 and worked at Campbell Hospital until her retirement in 1986.Fleta was a sweet, loving, and devoted mother and sister. Her hobbies included crochet and reading. She was also an avid sports fan and was especially proud of the rich tradition of Brock High School basketball.Fleta was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Lloyd Savage; two sisters, Lorene Elders, and Ruby Hardin; and two sons, Wesley Slade and Stanley Slade.Survivors include children, Hershel Slade and Sandra Slade of Purvis, Mississippi, Donald Slade of Hillsboro, Oregon, Kenneth Slade of Weatherford; brothers, Leroy Savage of Brock and Marvin Savage of Weatherford; sister, Melba Greenway of Weatherford; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.Funeral services are scheduled 10 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2005 at Brock Baptist Church with Reverend Jesse R. Tunnell officiating. Burial will be in Brock Cemetery. The family will receive guests 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at White's Funeral Home in Weatherford.
