Helen Robertson Cockburn, 84, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2005 in Ft. Worth. Funeral: 2 p.m., Wednesday at Hilltop Family Church. Burial: Springtown Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 p.m., Tuesday. Memorials: In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Springtown Senior Center. Helen R. Cockburn was born Oct. 2, 1920 in Decatur to Leonard Ray and Lillian Bradford Robertson. She was raised in Olney and was the oldest of five children. Helen excelled in high school basketball, loved fishing, and sports. She retired from General Dynamics after 33 years as departmental secretary for T. J. Shockley. After retirement, she served on the Parker County Committee of Aging Board. Helen also served as council person for the city of Springtown. She was Springtown Chamber of Commerce Woman of the year, 1991-1992. Helen served as election judge for the city of Springtown. She was instrumental in the planning, construction and all phases of the Senior Center in Springtown. She aslo worked as fundraising chairman for the center. Helen was a 56 year member and Past Matron of the Eastern Star Chapter #498. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Charlie H. Cockburn; three brothers, and one sister. Survivors: Son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Nancy Cockburn of Santo; granddaughter, Robin Mitchell and husband, John Mitchell of Bethlehem, PA; grandson, C. Ray Cockburn of Lipan; and great-grandchildren, Cody, Chelsye and Cassey Mitchell.
