SPRINGTOWN -- Alvin Burl Young, 85, went to be with the Lord Sunday, May 8, 2005 in Weatherford. Funeral: 10 a.m., Wednesday May 11, at White's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial: Springtown Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 Tuesday at White's Funeral Home. Alvin Young was born June 2, 1919 on the family farm south of Springtown to Bernie and Ollie Mae Rector Young. His family arrived in Parker County in 1858. Alvin was a fourth generation Parker County resident and spent his entire life in the Springtown area. He was a local business man and civic leader. Alvin served on the SISD School Board in the 1960's and 1970's. He was a charter member of the Lions Club for many years. Alvin was a WWII veteran and served in the US Army in the Pacific Campaign. After the war, Alvin returned to Springtown and married Modene Gilley. Together they owned and operated a cafe on the square for several years in the early 1950's. In 1954, they purchased the Sinclair Service Station on the corner of Hwy 51 and 199 and operated it until 1990. He and Modene raised three daughters. Survivors: Wife of 57 years, Modene; daughters, Charlotte Jones and husband, Alan, Sharon Hayes and husband, Wayne, Karen Stokes and Mack Stokes, all of Springtown; sisters, Marie Henery and Mary Kirk, both of Springtown, Lorene Skelton of Halletsville; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
