LaVeta Vaughan Phillips, 90, a retired teacher, died Friday, July 1, 2005LaVeta Vaughan Phillips was born December 24, 1914 to Albert Victor and Chloe Sheppard Vaughan. She graduated from Jacksboro High School as Valedictorian of her 1932 class. She attended North Texas State Teachers College and Abilene Christian College. She was an elementary school educator for over thirty-seven years at numerous schools. She belonged to the Retired Teachers Association and was a lifelong member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She married Nolan Phillips on May 22, 1937. He proceeded her in death.Mrs. Phillips was a Cristian and member of Jacksboro Church of Christ. She was very active in her church and also taught Sunday school classes.She is survived by her son, Tommy Phillips of Poolville; granddaughters, Laura Phillips and Chloe Phillips both of Chico; sister, Ava Crowder and husband, Troy of Lubbock; niece, Maria Martinez; great niece, Amanda Martinez; great nephew, Joshua Martinez; great great niece, Alexandria Martinez; and numerous cousins.Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday at the Jacksboro Church of Christ, Jacksboro. Burial will be in the Lone Star Cemetery. Visitation will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, one hour prior to the funeral service.
