Winifred Juanita Davis, 92, a retired librarian, died Thursday, July 7, 2005.Winifred Juanita Davis was born in Springtown, Texas October 22, 1912, the only child of the late Wesley Hugh and Hattie Bevill Davis. In 1926 the family moved to Weatherford. She graduated from Weatherford High School and was chosen Distinguished Alumna in 1999. Miss Davis was a graduate of Weatherford College and received a Bachelor's and Master of Library Science Degrees from Texas State College for Women, now T.W.U. in Denton. She was employed in the Weatherford College Library and became Librarian of Weatherford High School in 1938 and remained until retirement in 1978. She was a former member of Weatherford Classroom Teachers, Texas State Teachers Association and the National Education Association. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women of Weatherford; Parker County Retired Teachers Association as well as the state and national organizations; past local and state officer in the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and received local and state achievement awards; the United Daughters of the Confederacy; and Weatherford College Ex Students Association that named her alumna of the year 2000.She is survived by many distant cousins, friends and former students.Funeral services are schedule 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church, Weatherford.Burial will follow in the East Greenwood Cemetery, Weatherford. Friends may call at White's Funeral Home, Weatherford, Monday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 301 S. Main Street, Weatherford, 76086 or to a charity of your choice.
