Marchie Jane Gilliland

d. September 22, 2005

FORT WORTH -- Marchie Jane Chilcutt Gilliland, 91, passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, in Fort Worth. Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday at White's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial: Springtown Cemetery. Visitation: The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials: Emery J. Lilge Hospice House, 301 Circle, Burleson, Texas 76028. Marchie was born March 25, 1914, on a farm near Springtown. She was the last surviving child of Willie Sue Strickland Chilcutt and James Cornelius Chilcutt, who was born in a covered wagon as his pioneer family traveled from Tennessee. She graduated from Springtown High School in 1934. Marchie married the love of her life, Reed Gilliland, on Jan. 18, 1936, in Azle at the Methodist parsonage during the hard years of the Depression. They raised two children, Jerry Reed and Nancy Jane. Marchie was a member of Diamond Hill Baptist Church for 50 years, where she taught a children's Sunday school class and helped with the GAs. She retired from Pangburn's Candy in 1972, after 18 years of service. Marchie had so many interests and was an avid collector of about everything. She became interested in geneology that sparked an interest in it for the rest of the family. She liked to crochet and to make quilts, piecing them by hand, and giving many to her beloved family. She collected many treasures -- dolls, dishes, hats and tea pots. Marchie was a unique person, one who was always cheerful, funny, kind, who never grew old in her heart. She never spoke badly about anyone and she loved all her family with all her heart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reed Johnson Gilliland, in 1979; their son, Jerry Reed Gilliland, in 1983; her parents, James and Willie Chilcutt; and siblings, Frank, Luke, Joe, Bill, Wilson and Henry Chilcutt, Flossie Turnbow, Bertha Stroud, Emma Taylor Wright and Frances Hood. Survivors: Daughter, Nancy Cason and husband, Michael; daughter-in-law, Barbara Gilliland; grandchildren, Dana Campbell, Sheila Jane Rowe, Kimberly Gilliland and Terry Cason; and great-grandchildren, Melissa Jane, Ryan, Timothy, Paige, Drew, Kasi, Alex and Ryan G.
