Joann Belle (Fry) McQuaid, 71, of Mineral Wells, Texas, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2005 at Elkview General Hospital, Hobart, Oklahoma.Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 3, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Monday afternoon at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Lawton, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to the Moslah Shrine Children Burn Center in Fort Worth, Texas.Born in Oklahoma on November 9, 1933, Joann Belle Fry was raised on the Fry Ranch west of Apache in the slick hills area. During high school, she was an accomplished seamstress and a national award-winner in 4-H. Joann graduated from Alden High School and married Ray McQuaid. During their 55 years of marriage, they had two children, Celia and John. Joann was a Girl Scout leader for 11 years and Director of the Ft. Wolters Girl Scout Day Camp; she was a member of the Mineral Wells Chapter Order of Eastern Star for 25 years; and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Directors, Moslah Shrine. Joann had been an active member of First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells for 50 years. Joann graduated salutatorian of her class from Weatherford College, and together with her husband, Ray, they built a successful helicopter business; as owner/operators for 40 years, which involved extensive travel to domestic and foreign places alike. She continued this joy of traveling in retirement, as together, Ray and Joann enjoyed seven exceptional years traveling in their motor home to many wonderful places. At the time of her death, she and Ray were curators of a local museum in Mt. View, Oklahoma. Joann was preceded in death by her son, John Raymond McQuaid, and her parents, Lettie and Lewis Fry.Survivors include her husband of 55 years, James Raymond McQuaid; daughter, Celia and husband, Timothy R. Brown of Athens, Georgia; grandson, Timothy McQuaid Brown (currently studying for the ministry at Toccoa Falls Christian College in Toccoa, Georgia); sister, Frankie Mayer of Las Vegas, Nevada; sister-in-law, Martha and husband, Jim Suther of Mineral Wells, Texas.
