Don D. Martin,MD, 69, a physician, died Wednesday, January 18, 2006 in Aledo. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.Don Martin was born in 1936 in Lufkin, Texas to Othol H. "Abe" Martin, coach and athletic director at T.C.U., and Sally Thompson Martin. Don was a graduate of Paschal High School in 1954. He graduated from Texas Christian University in 1958 and Baylor University College of Medicine with honors, AOA, in 1962. After doing an internship at Parkland Hospital, Don served in the Air Force as an aerospace physician. Don completed his residency in dermatology at University of Oregon Medical School and practiced in Vancouver, Washington, and Fort Worth, Texas where he retired.Don married Aimee Amelie Acklen on December 21, 1957 in Fort Worth. Don was an avid camper and backpacker before moving back to Fort Worth. He loved the outdoors, nature and the solitude of the wilderness. He had a passion for reading, especially history, science fiction and mysteries, as well as old black and white movies and foreign films. Another passion was geography- Don could tell you the location of any island, mountain, lake or city in the world. He loved classical music and music from the 20s, 30s and 40s. He loved the French language, and his grandchildren fondly called him Grandpere. He was preceded in death by his parents.Don is survived by his wife, Aimee Martin of Aledo; daughter, Lisa Oliver and husband, Al of Jackson, Tenn.; grandchildren, Chloe Oliver and Ian Oliver also of Jackson, Tenn.; cousins, Joan Martin Smith and Robert Lee Martin both of Jacksboro, Texas.Funeral services are scheduled 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at White's Chapel of Memories in Weatherford.
