Howard Miner Edwards, 79, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2006 in Weatherford with his family around him.He was born in Muskegon, MI on April 14, 1926 to Burton DeMille and Hattie Tanis Edwards. Howard enlisted in the Army Air Corps March 4, 1944. He later transferred to Military Police/ Counter Intelligence. Howard was honorably discharged with the permanent rank of sergeant in July of 1948. He also served in the Air Force Reserves until just prior to the Korean War.Howard married Jean Roloff on February 26, 1949 in Grand Haven, Michigan.Howard retired in July, 1991 having worked for Convair/ General Dynamics for 37 years. His career started at Convair in San Diego, CA as tool designer on the Atlas Missile Program. Later the family moved to Texas and he worked in manufacturing on the F-16.Howard and Jean lived in Caesurae, Israel while he was production manager of the F-16 program. They then lived in Taiwan where he was Factory/Production manager on the IDF program.After retiring, Howard and Jean traveled throughout the United States in their fifth-wheel with their golden retrievers, Katie Scarlett and Toby Rhett.For Ten years, they volunteered at least three months a year a the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm at LBJ State Historical Park in Stonewall, Texas. Howard thoroughly enjoyed conducting tours of school children of all ages through all aspects of farm life in the early 1900s on a German-American farm.They were members of three travel clubs and looked forward to weekend campouts with each group.Howard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean Edwards of Weatherford; son, Greg Edwards; granddaughter, Sydney Paige and special friend, Pebble Floyd; son, Jeff Edwards and wife, Donna; grandchildren, Chad and Ashleigh Kaye; daughter, Susan Rector and husband, Mark; grandchildren, Taylor Diane and Haley Brooke; son, Keith Edwards and wife, Michelle; grandchildren, Logan and Tyler; brother, Raymond C. Edwards; and furry friends, Annie and Rosey.Funeral services are scheduled 11 AM, Friday, March 3, 2006 at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 907 Washington, Weatherford. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery, Weatherford. The family will receive guests from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at White's Funeral Home, Weatherford. Memorial donations may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Building Fund.
