James Lewis Starr, 87,died Wednesday, March 15, 2006 in Azle.Funeral: 11:00 A.M. Saturday at White's Azle Chapel. Burial: Lynn Creek Cemetery in Jacksboro. Visitation: 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at White's Azle Funeral Home. Mr. Starr was born to the late Joel Allen Starr and Allie (Jackson) Starr in Squaw Mountain, Jack County on July 20, 1918. He was a long term resident of Wichita Falls, where he worked for Wichita Engineering Company building oil field drilling rigs. Mr. Starr moved to Azle in 1968 and began a period of employment with Tri-County Electric Co-Op where he was manager of the vehicle fleet. Upon retirement from Tri-County Electric, Mr. Starr became a school bus driver for the Azle Independent School District. The Chamber of Commerce presented him with a Certificate of Merit for saving the life of a student by applying the Heimlich maneuver. Mr. Starr was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Azle and a 32nd Degree Mason, the recipient of the 50 year award, the Golden Trowel Award, and a much valued instructor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Marie (Brock) Starr in 1993 and their son James Richard Starr in 1981, also preceded in death by three sisters, Hulen Lovett, Lou Davis and infant sister, Vinnie Lou Starr; and brother Peg Starr. Survivors: daughter Mary Jo (Starr) Chapman and her husband, Daniel; four grandchildren, Dana L. (Chapman) Montgomery and her husband Troy, Jeffrey S. Chapman and his wife Christie, Wendy R. (Starr) Pettigrew and her husband, Micah,Tonya M. (Starr) Webster and her husband, Gary; great-grandchildren, Crystal (Montgomery) Colley and husband Cory, Heather M. Montgomery, Tara L. Pettigrew, Jeffrey S. Chapman II, James M. Chapman, Logan M. Johnston, Cori Jo Webster, Nicholas Padgett and Sydney Padgett; two great great grandchildren, Celsea S. Colley and Caitlyn D. Colley; brother, Wesley Starr; sister-in-law, Virginia Starr; uncle Marvin Jackson; numerous nieces and nephews.
