S. Wayne Carter, 75, of Weatherford, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, April 22, 2006. Stennis Wayne Carter was born January 11, 1931, in Wichita Falls, the son of the late Judge Stennis and Leona Mae Stroud Carter. He was raised in Weatherford and after graduating from Weatherford High School in 1949, he played football at Weatherford College and Hardin Simmons University. He graduated from HSU in 1953. On February 19, 1955 he married the love of his life, Maxine Hill. After serving in the US Army they moved to Hobbs, New Mexico before returning to Weatherford as an Exxon Distributor, retiring in 1997. Wayne loved Weatherford and served his community through various boards and clubs including WISD School Board, City Council, Planning and Zoning Board, Water and Electric Board, Economic Development Council, Rotary Club, Optimist Club, Lions Club and was a WHS Life member of the Booster Club. Recently he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from WISD, receiving this award was one of his proudest moments. Wayne was also a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Weatherford. He led his life serving others and loving his family, including his four children. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Wayne is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Maxine Hill Carter; children, Gary and wife, Suzi of Weatherford, Mike and wife, Nika of Weatherford, Sandra Kurosky and husband Bobby of Richland Hills, and Christy Koski and husband, John of Wichita Falls; sister, Virginia Adams and husband, Bill of Plano; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He also left behind a large and loving circle of extended family and friends. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Weatherford. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at White's Funeral Home in Weatherford.
