Troy Byron Holcomb Jr., 74, died Monday, May 8, 2006.Troy Byron Holcomb, Jr. was born January 5, 1932 in Bardwell, Texas. His childhood was spent in Emhouse, Texas with his parents and two sisters and brother. For his senior year of high school, he moved to Corsicana so that he could play baseball. He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1949. He served in the United States Air Force form 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War. He received the Good Conduct, Korean Service, National Defense and U.N. Service medals for his time.He met and began dating the former Patricia Ann Martin in 1956 and they married on June 25, 1960. Their first son, Troy was born March 5, 1964 and their youngest son, Tracy was born October 19, 1965. In 1967, they moved to Weatherford, Texas and it was here they maintained their residence for the past 39 years.Troy was a long-time employee of Employers General Insurance. He was a welding inspector and was based at PECO Company in Mineral Wells, Texas. He was a long-time faithful member of North Side Baptist Church, Weatherford and served as a door-greeter for many years. While his sons were growing up, he was very active in their youth sports associations. He served as an assistant coach and he also spent many hours fixing and repairing baseball gloves for many of the players. He also, along with another dad, served as the "unofficial" groundskeeper of the new Weatherford High School baseball field when it was built in 1983.The last several years, he struggled with Parkinson's. But during this time, he thoroughly enjoyed his two grandchildren- Joshua and Hannah. He was an avid sports fan. His favorites were the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and the PGA. His other favorite teams were the Weatherford College Coyotes and the Weatherford Wranglers- he was a season ticket holder for both. He also loved to read. His favorite authors were Louis Lamour and Tom Clancy.Without a doubt, he will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. Thank you Heavenly Father for this precious man. As the Psalmist says, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints."He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Mae Holcomb and his sister, Sunshine Mott. Survivors include wife, Pat Holcomb of Weatherford; sons, Troy of Paradise and Tracy and wife, Debra of Olton, Texas; grandson, Joshua; granddaughter, Hannah of Olton, Texas; sister, Wilma McCann and husband, Esco of Corsicana; brother, Roy Don and wife, Christine of Arlington; and Brother-in-law, Billy Jack Mott of Burleson. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.Funeral services are scheduled 2 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2006 at North Side Baptist Church of Weatherford. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery, Weatherford. The family will receive guests 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at White's Funeral Home, Weatherford.
