White Settlement - Gladys A. Harris Parker, 92, a retired school teacher, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2006 at West Side Campus of Care.Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 26 at Walnut Creek Baptist Church, in Reno, with Dr. Carl Clinton officiating. Burial will follow at Nelson Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 25 at White's Funeral Home in Springtown. Memorials may be made in her honor to Nelson Cemetery, C/O Dolly Paden-Rea, 8709 Quebec, Fort Worth, Texas 76108.Gladys was born near Reno, March 4, 1914, to Lee Roy and Dora McCrory Harris; the seventh of eight children. On April 28, 1941, she married William Harold Parker in Fort Worth. In 1933, Gladys graduated from Weatherford High School, and in 1937 she received a Bachelor of Science Degree from North Texas Teachers College in Denton. Her first school, where she taught from 1937 to 1940, was the old one-room Liberty School north of Azle; 1943-44 at the Reno School; and retired in 1972 from Birdville ISD. Also, she taught Sunday school at Walnut Creek Baptist Church for many years. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; her son, Edward Lee Parker; four brothers and three sisters.She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
