Harry Joseph Winston, Jr., 79, of Weatherford, Texas passed away Monday, December 18, 2006 after a long and courageous battle.He was born July 9, 1927 in Weatherford, Texas. His parents were the late Harry Joseph Winston, Sr. and Mary Eula (Martin) Winston. He was an honor graduate of Weatherford High School in 1944. He then entered Texas A&M College. While there he played baritone in the Aggie Band and was in the R.O.T.C. program. His education was interrupted when he was drafted and served in the Corps of Engineers, Ft. Lewis. Washington during WWII. He resumed his college work in 1947 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1950, and then returned to Weatherford.He was ordained a deacon in 1954 at First Baptist Church. He served as Chairman of the Deacon's twice and was head of the Committee that started the First Baptist Daycare. He remained an active deacon until his health deteriorated.He married Venita Glenn in 1958. She was church secretary at the time. He worked as a Senior Aircraft Design Engineer for General Dynamics for twenty-one years. During that time he helped design the Centaur rocket, one of the first used in Earth's orbit. His innovative design of a particular part was used in the wing design of the F-111 and was awarded a patent. He was employed by Texas Electric Service Company for 17 years, 15 in Fort Worth and two in the corporate office in downtown Dallas as a Senior Engineer. He retired in 1989.He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He served many years as a Director of the Parker County Sportsman's Club. He was a long time member of the Parker County Heritage Society and served on the Parker County Caboose Restoration Committee. He was a member of the Genealogy Society and Friends of the Weatherford Public Library. He enjoyed travel with Colorado being his favorite destination. He was always family oriented.He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Venita; their daughter, Linda Winston Kline, son-in-law, David Kline, and granddaughter, Holly Kline all of Weatherford; and brother-in-law, Shurman Glenn of Fort Worth.Funeral services are scheduled 1:00 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, 221 W. Church Street, Weatherford, Texas with burial following in the Spring Creek Cemetery. The family will receive guests from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at White's Funeral Home in Weatherford.
