J. D. Roberts, Sr.

J. D. Roberts, 87, a retired farmer and truck driver, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at a local nursing home. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 13 at White's Azle Chapel. J. D. was born August 5, 1919 in Childress to the late D.F. and Bertha Owens Roberts. He was one of eleven children. J.D. married Geraldine Hunt on May 3, 1942 in Gainesville and spent 54 years with her before her death in June 1996. He served in the Army during World War II. His brothers also served during the war and all survived. J.D. was a member of American Legion #356 and VFW Post #2131. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, five sisters and his wife, Gerry.Survivors: children, J.D. Roberts, Jr. of Austin, Robert L. Roberts of Haslet, Elane Mott of Weatherford, Judy Tipton of Rockport and Larry Roberts of Portland; 15 grandchildren; 18 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
