Edward Laverne Armstrong, 90, a loving husband and father, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at a local hospital. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Friday at Grace First Presbyterian Church, Weatherford. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manna Storehouse or the Presbyterian Church Good Samaritan Fund. Edward was born Jan. 16, 1917, in Evansville, Ind., to James and Elizabeth Armstrong. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 during World War II. Edward was also a POW in the European theater. Edward had been a Scoutmaster, deacon and elder in his church. He had been a semi-pro baseball player, an avid fisherman, golfer, catcher for a trapeze act and bridge player. Survivors: Wife, Betty Armstrong of Weatherford; sons, James Henry Armstrong and wife, Patricia, of Leakey and Dr. Richard Edward Armstrong and wife, Jessica, of Waco; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
