Marion Joseph "Buddy" Robertson, 84, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at his home.The son of the late Marion and Annie Robertson, he was born July 15, 1923, in Mineral Wells, Texas.He was a life-long farmer and rancher who loved to improve and restore as much of God's earth as he could. He was honored as the outstanding conservation farmer in zone 2, Hood-Parker Soil Conservation District in 1964. His greatest joy was driving his bulldozer and building large dams, catch basins, terraces and diversion ditches. He was one of the first farmers in the nation to raise hairy vetch seed used to restore soil. He also raised sheep, goats, Hereford and Simmental cattle. Having never met a stranger, Mr. Robertson genuinely loved his fellow man and was always ready to help a neighbor or stranger in need. Mr. Robertson helped found the Peaster Volunteer Fire Department and served as the first Fire Marshall, fighting many fires as a smoke-eater during his tenure. Mr. Robertson is survived by his sister, Judith Anne Robertson of the home, sister, Normada L. Woolsey of Arlington; brother, James M. Robertson and wife, Rose Elaine of Norman, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews.Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2007 at White's Chapel of Memories in Weatherford.Memorial donations in his name may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 6977 Main Street, Houston, Texas 77030.
