Delphine Miller Dean, 98, died Friday, July 13, 2007 at Hospice Savannah. She was born in Yates Center, Kansas, July 23, 1908 to Arthur and Nettie Miller.She was married to Damon P. Dean on May 27, 1927, and after a lifelong career with Burroughs Corporation, he retired as Branch Manager of the Fort Worth office. They moved to Azle, Texas to live out their retirement years. Married 63 years, he preceded her in death in 1990. In October 2004, she moved to Savannah, Georgia to live with her daughter. She studied education and music at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas and taught high school at Floydada and Arlington. When living in Memphis, Tennessee in the 1950's, she was an active and busy volunteer for the March of Dimes and with the Shrine School for Crippled Children. After retirement and moving to Azle, Texas, she was active in the Mary Anderson Music Society and in her church at Ash Creek Baptist Church, teaching Sunday school, serving as President of the Golden Age Senior Citizens, and on various church committees. A younger brother, Lewis, preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters and their spouses: Beverly (Gene) Jarvis of Savannah; and Winifred (Vernon) Drane of Memphis; grandchildren: Gerald A. Drane of Cumming, Ga., Karen (Dr. William J.) Busler of Memphis; Windel Drane of Southaven, Mississippi; Paul (Kathryn) Jarvis of Birmingham, Alabama; Anne (Dan) Roper of Birmingham; great grandchildren: Callie Rose Drane, David Ross Drane, and Emory Hannah Jarvis; niece, Frances Allen of Austin, Texas. and great niece Jenifer (Patrick) Holeva of Midland, Texas, cousin Eugene Johnston of Yates Center, Kansas. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2007, at Ash Creek Cemetery in Azle, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Ash Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 300 S. Stewart St., Azle, Texas, 76020. or the charity of your choice.
