Billie Juanita Shields Oates

Juanita Shields Oates, of Azle, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2007 at a Fort Worth care center after suffering a stroke in March. She was born Billie Juanita Neighbors in Rochester, Texas on December 24, 1928. Juanita lived most of her life in Plainview, Texas, and there she married Rollan Shields in 1949, who preceded her in death in 1980. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Glen Oates in 1996; her brothers, Royce Neighbors of Azle in 1999, and Delbert Neighbors of Prosper in 2001. Juanita and Rollan were long time members of Jaybird Lane Assembly of God Church, later called Outreach of Love. There Juanita was church secretary and director of daycare for many years. Recently she was a founding member of Cornerstone Church of Springtown, where her services will be held. She is survived by one sister, Oleta Grizzle and husband, Ted, of McKinney; brother, Lavoe Neighbors and wife, Mary, of Parker; her daughters, Rollene Storms and husband, Stephen, of Cape Girardeau of Missouri, Rita Almaguer and husband, John, of Fort Worth; two sons, Lyndall Shields and wife, Linda, of Azle, and Daryle Shields and wife, Rosemary, of Fort Worth; two granddaughters, three grandsons, two great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and her extended Oates family.Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at Cornerstone Community Church, 2233 Highway 199, Springtown. Burial will be in the Lynn Creek Cemetery, Jacksboro. Juanita was very proud that several of her grandchildren and her church are involved in missions work in New York, Romania, and Mongolia. In lieu of flowers, her children would be honored if donations could be made to the Juanita Shields Missions Fund at Springtown Wells Fargo Bank.
