Ruth Barker was born in Mineral Wells, Texas on January 14, 1913 to Frank and Bertie Mae Johnson. She passed on September 12, 2007 in Weatherford, Texas.As a child she moved to Weatherford, Texas. Ruth attended public schools in Weatherford and attended Texas Tech University after her marriage to Wilson Barker of Weatherford. She was involved in parental organizations for her children, Roger and Ruth Lynn, serving as president of Travis Elementary School PTA and active in Weatherford High School parental support. Ruth worked for the Weatherford Water and Light Department for fifteen years and was a homemaker and wonderful mother to her children. Ruth was active in the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron along side of her husband, Wilson serving as Worthy Patron.Ruth was a lifelong member of Couts Memorial United Methodist Church where she was actively involved with Pairs & Spares Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. She and Wilson loved to camp out and had many friends in their camper group. Ruth took joy and comfort in her children and grandchildren, a great mother to the end. She was preceded in death by Wilson Barker, her husband of 62 years; brothers Charlie and Walter Johnson; sisters, Arvie Cory, and Berts Ledbetter; and grandson, Phillip H. Barker.She is survived by her sister Edna Strickland of Weatherford; son Roger Barker and wife, Linda of Weatherford; and by her daughter, Ruth Lynn Cotter and husband, Sam of Weatherford. Grandchildren Walter Barker and wife Ouida of Weatherford, Alan Barker and wife Ellen of McKinney, Texas, Juliana Barker ofArlington, Texas, DeAnna Wilson and husband, Keven of Weatherford, Texas, Wendy Gillion and husband, Glen of Mansfield, Texas, Chris Cotter and wife Amy of Kingwood, Texas, Shari Hedstrom and husband, Charles of Weimer, Texas and Kelli McAnally and husband Bryan of Flower Mound, Texas. Great-grandchildren, Cynthia Jones and husband Casey, Alan Barker, Alex Barker, Austin Barker, James Barker, Lauren Barker, Haley Wilson, Dustin Wilson, Sam Cotter, Zach Cotter, Samantha Hedstrom, Mitchell Hedstrom, Lynnlee Hedstrom, Nolan Hedstrom, Kaylyn McAnally, Cotter McAnally, Kelsi McAnally; and great- great- grandson Blake Jones.A service of celebration of the life of Ruth Barker will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2007 at Couts Memorial United Methodist Church, 802 N. Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086.The family will receive guests 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2007 at White's Funeral Home in Weatherford.
