Odell C. "Bill" Guess, 86, of Millsap, went to be with his Lord, Saturday, September 15, 2007.Born to Elizabeth Thomas and Floyd Edgar Guess in Parker County, Texas, Bill graduated from Millsap High School in 1939 and enlisted in the Navy. During his seven years of service, 42 months were spent in a Manchurian prison camp following the fall of Corregidor on May 6, 1942. Bill was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Hart. Upon discharge from the Navy, he returned to Parker County to marry Dortha Ashley. He became a rural mail carrier for the next 35 years while farming, raising cattle, and horses in Millsap, Texas, Bill was an active member of the Millsap Volunteer Fire Department, the Millsap Heritage Society, and a 60 year Master Mason and recipient of the Golden Trowel Award. With the Millsap Heritage Society, Bill was instrumental in moving and rebuilding the original Fuller Millsap cabin.He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Orena and Loretta, and one brother, Millard.The family wishes to thank the Arbor House family and American Hospice for their love and care of Bill.Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dortha; son, Tony Guess and wife, Carolyn; daughter, Susie Barnes and husband, Kenneth; grandsons, Chris Carlson and wife, Amber, Jason and Steven Guess, Christipher Barnes and wife, Christie; great-grandsons, Austin and Zachary; brother, Curtis Guess and wife, Jean; sister, Wanda Snow and husband, Frank; and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.Funeral services are scheduled 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at Couts Memorial United Methodist Church, 802 N. Elm Street, Weatherford. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. The family will receive guests 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at White's Funeral Home in Weatherford. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Millsap School Foundation, the Weatherford College Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
