Hazel Ruth Smith, born to Thomas Ira Brown and Amanda Elizabeth Matthews Brown on Aug. 11, 1924 in Shawnee, Okla. passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008 at the age of 83.Ruth was a graduate of Shawnee High School and worked for Oklahoma Gas and Electric until her marriage to William Bassil Smith on March 13, 1953. She was a resident of Arlington for 15 years and lived in Parker County for the past 33 years. Ruth was a life-long member of the church of Christ, spending many years teaching children's Bible classes. Ruth dedicated her life to loving her husband, taking loving care of her children, and enjoying her grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bassil; and three sisters, Irene Elizabeth Brown, Ila Rhea Rogers and Ruby Olivia Melson.Survivors include five children, Trudie Head of Cleburne, SuAnne McBroom and husband, Thomas of Del City, Okla., Cassie King and husband, Dwayne of Alto, Tom Smith and wife, Susan of Aledo, Sarah Bruce and husband, Doyle of Aledo; 14 grandchildren, Lora Head of Torreon, Mexico, Timothy Head of Abilene, Jennifer Head of Dallas, Andy King of Robinson, Amanda Pierce of Webster, Will Head of Alvarado, Laresa Hays of Whitehouse, Nathan McBroom of Topeka, KS, Anthony King of Alto, William McBroom of Del City, Okla., Benjamin Bruce of Aledo, Katy Smith of Aledo, Deborah Bruce of Aledo, and Alec Smith of Aledo; three great-grandchildren, Trinity Head, Ryan Head, and Logan King; one brother, Thomas Ira Brown Jr. of La Jolla, CA.; and a host of other loving family and many friends. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2007 at Western Hills Church of Christ, 8800 Chapin Rd, Fort Worth. Burial to follow in Annetta Cemetery. The family will receive guests 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave, Weatherford. The Smith family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth's memory be made to a charity of choice.
