Bessie Grantham Barrett, 77, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2008, surrounded by her family at a local hospital. Funeral: 10 a.m. Monday at Ash Creek Baptist Church, 300 South Stewart St., Azle. Burial: Boonsville Cemetery, 920 and CR 3840, Wise County. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at White's Azle Funeral Home. Bessie Grantham Barrett was born in Boonsville on April 16, 1931, daughter of the late Robert Drew and Evelene Womack Grantham. She married Tommie Gene Barrett on Aug. 29, 1952, and together started their family of Craig and Kaye Lynn. In 1965, Bessie and Tommie moved to Azle, where they were members of Ash Creek Baptist Church. Her passions were shopping and cooking and her grandchildren were absolutely her life. Bessie made her career as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Bessie was preceded in death by her parents and twin brother, Jessie Ray Grantham, in 1996. Survivors: Husband of 55 years, Tommie Gene Barrett; son, Craig Barrett and wife, Daniece; daughter, Kaye Lynn Judd and husband, Edgar; sister, Nevesta and husband, Carl Ray Jones, of Bridgeport; grandchildren, Mikael, Mandi and her husband, Chris, Jason, Whitney and Zackary; great-grandchildren, Tye and Cade; her Ruth Class sisters; special friend, Rose Chambers; as well as her numerous other family members whom she loved dearly.
