Lucille Shafer Mead, 89, passed away Monday, July 21, 2008, at a Mineral Wells care facility. Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday in White's Funeral Chapel, 101 N.E. Fourth Ave., Mineral Wells. Interment: 1:30 p.m. in Bethany Cemetery, Johnson County. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Lucille Shafer Mead was born April 21, 1919, in Bowie County, daughter of the late John Aaron and Vinnie Missouri Howell Shafer. She lived in Weatherford from 1988 to 2006 and had resided in Mineral Wells for two years. Lucille was a retired executive secretary. Lucille was a member of Couts Memorial United Methodist Church in Weatherford. Lucille was preceded in death by her husbands, Ted Mead and David Phillips; son, John Robert Walters; two sisters; and a brother. Survivors: Daughter, Martha Campbell and husband, Weldon, of Perrin; three stepchildren; brother, Joe T. Shafer of Huntsville; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; and five nieces.
