Allen Slate, 80, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008 in Lawton, Oklahoma. Funeral service: Noon Friday at White's Funeral Home in Springtown. Interment: Springtown Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Leonard was born February 18, 1928 in Springtown to John F. and Bessie Emma Slate. He served his country in the United States Army at Fort Sill. Allen was employed as a truck driver for 40 years with Joe Rider, he was also treasurer and a Sunday school teacher at the Azle Baptist Church for many years. His CB handle was "Bulldog". His favorite hobbies were tinkering with cars and fishing. He and his wife, Joan loved to travel. Allen was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years in 2005 and brothers and sisters, Ollie, Ola, Edith, Marie, Earl and Earnest. Survivors: Daughter, Patricia "Pete" Rhodes and husband, Sam of Lawton;son, Tommy Slate; granddaughters, Stacy Baird and husband, Scott of Weatherford, Amanda Simpson and John Apostotides of Australia and Taylor Gaddy and husband, Kenny of Lawton, Okla.; grandson, Blake Rhodes of Lawton, Okla.; granddaughter, Melissa Sisk of Fort Worth; great-grandchildren, Stori, Bubba, Slate, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of loving friends at Goodwill Adult Daycare in Lawton, Okla.
