STEPHENVILLE -- Marshall W. Ray Sr. passed away Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, in Fort Worth. Mr. Ray was born April 29, 1921, in Erath County. He married Bobby Joyce Burks of Comanche County on Aug. 17, 1946, in Mineral Wells. Mr. Ray was a longtime resident of Erath County before moving to Mineral Wells in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army as a medic in the Signal Corps during World War II in the European theater and participated in the Allied invasion of Normandy, Omaha Beach on D-Day. He was employed by the REA in Stephenville until moving to Mineral Wells, where he was employed by Jaques Steel Co. and Bateman's Foundry and Machine Shop, until going into the manufacturing business. He was a member of the Business Men's Class of First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells until he and his wife retired to Stephenville, where they attended Valley Grove Baptist Church. He was a past board member of Boy Scout Troop 72, a charter member of Poor Boy's Roping Club, and the Perrin Coon Hunting Club. He and his wife also enjoyed many years of camping with the Crazy Sam's Camping Club. Survivors: Son, Marshall W. Ray Jr. and wife, Charlotte; daughter, Lou Alda Ray Cardwell and husband, Phillip Allan; granddaughters, Kendall Ray Shearman and husband, Richard, Bobbie Cardwell Dotson and husband, Chris; grandson, Phillip Ray Cardwell; great-granddaughter, Susan Elizabeth Dotson; sister, Naomi Pate; niece, Maida Lucus; great-niece, Cindy Davis and husband, Lonnie; and many cousins and friends.
