Maynard Payne, 81, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2008 in Azle. Memorial Service: 10:00 A.M. Monday at the Azle Church of Christ. Maynard was born in Centralia, West Virginia June 8, 1927 to the late Sherman Lee and Emma Skidmore Payne. He grew up on a farm with his parents, brothers and sisters. Times were hard for the Payne family. He joined the United States Navy and was stationed on a hospital ship during World War II. When he came home from the Navy he went to Ohio and worked in factories and in the fields until he learned to weld. Welding was his life work until 1993, which was when he retired. Maynard and wife, "Jeannie" were married August 23, 1994. Our family wishes to express our thanks to the Azle Church of Christ for their visits, prayers and cards. Also to the staff at Azle Manor for all the love and attention they gave him. A special thanks to Joe England for his friendship and being a "Mother Hen" to Maynard while he was so very sick, also thanks to Betty Jean Campsey for helping Maynard and me through these last final days.Survivors: wife, Lora Jean "Jeannie" Keener Payne; children, Ruby, Tony, Betty and Shelley; grandchildren, Nancy, Carrie, Heather and Anthony; great-grandchildren, John, Mathew, Jacob, Haley, Colby, Annaliese and Chase; sisters, Irena, Geneviene, Olive Mae, "Dottie" Dorothy and Norma; brothers, Olen, Charles and Mansel; and many loving family members and friends.
