Mary Margaret Ditmore Mathews, 77, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, surrounded by family in Springtown. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, 301 S Main St., Weatherford. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Avenue, Weatherford. Memorials: In lieu of usual remembrances, the Mathews family requests memorials be made in Mary's name to United Methodist Women FUMC, 301 S. Main St., Weatherford, Texas 76086. Mary was born Sept. 4, 1931, in Springfield, Ill., the daughter of the late David Claude and Margaret Dennison (Davidson) Ditmore. She attended high school at Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut, Mass., graduating in 1948 and received her B.S. degree from Texas State College for Women in 1953. Mary taught school in Azle before taking ten years off to be a stay at home mom. She started teaching at Weatherford in 1966 and taught at all levels, including special education at the high school, until she retired in 1989. Mary was a faithful member of FUMC Weatherford for 51 years. She was also a member of the Keystone Sunday School Class, the chancel choir, and one of the original members of the hand bell choir. She belonged to the Mary Sisserson/Nona Akard Circle and was very active in the UMW, holding many local and district positions over the years. Mary volunteered with the PTA, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Stephen Ministry, and Manna. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. David C. and Margaret D. Ditmore; and her brother, Dr. David F. Ditmore. Survivors: Husband of 57 years, Robert A. Mathews of Weatherford; children, Mariney Shackelford and husband, Barney, of Springtown, Robert Mathews Jr. and wife, Kelley, of Midlothian, and Leigh Ann Acker and husband, Rick, of Springtown; grandchildren, Chrystie, Mindy, Samantha, Nicole, Vanessa, Jake, Mikaela, Misty, Alex, Clay, and Brett; great-grandchildren, Skylar, Kiara, Jayden, Chatira, Joshua, Tianna, Taylor, and Rilee.
