Chester Alexander "C.A." Woolsey, 91, passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008. Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday in White's Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Interment: Dicey Cemetery, Parker County. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at White's Funeral Home. A Weatherford and Parker County native, C.A. Woolsey was born Sept. 9, 1917. Woolsey entered the Army Air Force in 1941 as a cadet at Ryan School of Aeronautics at San Diego, Calif. He served in many capacities during his career and flew many of the Air Force's various types of aircraft. He made the service acceptance tests on the revolutionary Boeing B-29 Super Fortress heavy bomber, and was among the first five Army pilots to fly the aircraft and subsequently went on to fly many dangerous missions in Japan and China during World War II. He flew the first B-36 squadron out of Carswell Air Force Base and was based in Limestone, Maine, in 1954-55. He served as base commander in Korea, where he trained Korean F-86 fighter pilots. He rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel and retired in 1959. C.A. was a member of the Fort Worth Scottish Rite, Moslah Shrine (Moslah Mounties and a past president), past president of Kiwanis Club, Air Force Association, 40th Bomb Group Association, Daedalians, Quiet Birdmen, Ridglea Masonic Lodge #1341 and Sojourners. C.A. was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Butler Woolsey; parents, Charles Alexander Woolsey and Mary Lucinda Woolsey; brothers, Amos Jennings Woolsey, Charles Laverne Woolsey and Howard Eugene Woolsey; and sisters, Grace English and Nellie Mae Woolsey. Survivors: Sons, Brian Woolsey of Gettysburg, Pa., Michael Woolsey of Arlington, Chet Woolsey of Fort Worth and Jonathon Woolsey of Arlington; daughters, Kathy Woolsey of Arlington and Cindy Richards of Fort Worth.
