Myrtle "Meme" Peterson, 86, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at her residence in Azle. Graveside Service: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 24 in Azleland Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at White's Azle Chapel, 105 Denver Trail, Azle. Myrtle was born July 6, 1922 in Briar to the late William Claud and Hattie Irene Lisby. She played piano by ear since she was 3 years old. Myrtle earned the nickname "Penny", while playing the piano at church for a penny per song. She was the captain of her volleyball team that won the state championship in 1939 at the Newark Intercity Volleyball Tournament. Myrtle had lived in Azle her entire life and was known for her chicken fried steak and coconut pies. She was a huge Texas Rangers fan and never missed watching a game. Myrtle was a member of the Ash Creek Baptist Church. She was the rock of her family and loved by all. Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clark Dale Peterson; daughter, Billie Joyce Ford; son, Charles Dale Peterson; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters. Survivors: daughter, Wanda Waskow of Azle; daughter-in-law, Virginia Peterson of Azle; seven grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne Lisby and wife, Judy of Fort Worth; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of loving friends.
