Velma Springfield, 84, passed away Friday, January 30, 2009 in Azle. Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at White's Azle Chapel. Interment: Jaybird Cemetery. Visitation: 11:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Monday at White's Azle Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Harris Methodist Northwest Auxilary or charity of choice. Velma was born March 20, 1924 in Purvis to Joe and Launa Noah. After several moves, her family settled in LaJuanta and she graduated from Azle High School in 1941. In 1944, Velma married Billy A. Rose who was killed in the line of duty for the Abilene Police Department. They had one son, Bruce Rose. After the death of her husband, Velma went to work for the Abilene Police Department as the secretary for the Investigation Bureau. Several years later at an Azle reunion, she met Curtis Springfield. They married and moved to Azle in 1955 where they lived for the rest of their lives. They were active members of Walnut Creek Baptist Church. Velma had many hobbies. She had a green thumb and was an active member of the Garden Club for years. She volunteered at Harris Methodist Northwest Hospital and wrote for the Azle News on occasion. She liked to bowl, loved to tap dance, and ride her bicycle. She was preceded in death by her parents, older brother, Bruce Ellis Noah, and husband of 44 years, Curtis Springfield. The family would like to give special thanks to Silver Creek Place for their loving care and and friendship, and to Covenant Hospice. Survivors: son, Bruce Rose and wife, Barbara; grandchildren, Christi Read and husband, Randy, and Barry Rose and wife, Mindi; great-grandchildren, Daxen Read and Briggs Rose; brother, Carl Noah and wife, Ellie and numerous nieces and nephews.
