Audrey Smith Harwell

Audrey (affectionately known as Grandma), 92 of Parker County passed away Sunday, August 23, 2009 in a local nursing home. Funeral: 10 am Wednesday at White's Chapel of Memories Interment: Spring Creek Cemetery Visitation: 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of usual remembrances, donations may be made to the Capital Campaign for the new Parker County Senior Center at 1225 Holland Lake, Dr., Weatherford, TX 76086. Audrey May Smith was born December 15, 1916 in Prescott, Arkansas, the first child of Homer and Alpha Smith. The family moved to Parker County settling in the Tin Top Community on January 26, 1930. After two years the family moved back to Arkansas, however was unable to live there due to Audrey suffering from asthma. In 1933 the family moved back to Tin Top. On January 2, 1935 Audrey married Eddleman Pickard and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1985. Eddleman died September 14, 1986. Audrey married Herman Harwell on November 29, 1997, and he died November 12, 2005. Audrey attended Roberson Creek and Hightower schools in Parker County and later the old Weatherford Business College. She worked at various jobs over the years before going to work for the United States Department of Agriculture, retiring after many years of service. Audrey loved her church and was a founding member of the Windmill Church of Christ in the Tin Top Community. She was very active in the Twentieth Century Club and won awards with her flower arrangements. Audrey loved flowers and continued to grow them until her death. She was a gourmet cook and read from her large collection of cookbooks and watched cooking shows daily. Audrey sewed adult bibs and donated them to the Senior Center's building fund and was looking forward to the new Center on Tin Top Road. Audrey is survived by daughters, Nadeen Murphree and husband, Kenneth, Frankie Smith and Jerry Kelley; son, James Pickard and Alane Blake; grandchildren, Donna Murphree Tillman and husband, Steve, Linda Murphree Smith and husband, Brian, Karen Kelley Combs and husband, Travis, Kerry Kelley and wife, Wendy, Dustie Pickard Mills and husband, Greg, Lacy Jane Hodges and husband, Brandon; step-children, Richard and Ann Harwell, Randy and Janet Harwell; and a host of extended family and friends.
