Margie Ruth Baker Converse, 85, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away Monday, September 7, 2009. Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday at Central Christian Church, 1602 S. Main, Weatherford. Burial: Memory Garden of the Valley Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at White's Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church or Child Advocates. Margie Ruth Converse was born December 9, 1923, in Garner, daughter of Perry Meacham Baker and Olie Virginia Lee Baker. Margie lived most of her life in Quanah and Wichita Falls and was a lifetime elder in the First Christian Church. She was a well-loved math teacher at Fowler Elementary School in Wichita Falls. Margie also volunteered for Child Advocates. She loved to write and speak about her childhood in Garner. Margie was an avid gardener and traveler, a blocks, bikes, books, and kites type grandmother, and a vibrant, outgoing example of how to live a Christian life. Margie was preceded in death by husband, Clayton; sisters Marion, Ola Lee, Mildred, and Carlie; and brother Perry. Survivors: children: Paul and wife Niki, Richard Timothy, and Kathy Slaughter and husband Grady; grandchildren, Paula, Charles and wife Beth, Warren, Lena and husband Brandon, Evan and Callie; six great-grandchildren; brother Jean D. Baker and his wife and Margie's best friend Berniece; many loving nieces and nephews; church friends; teacher friends; many loving former students; and devoted neighbors and caregivers.
