Scherer. The Lowrys and Scherers were prominent ranching families and early settlers of Parker County. He graduated from Weatherford High School in 1943 and later served in the United States Army with the occupation forces in Japan. Upon his return, he received a bachelor's degree in engineering from North Texas State University and later completed his graduate studies at Texas Christian University with a master's degree in mathematics. On October 25, 1958, he married the love of his life, Margery Jordan. For several years, George worked as a civil engineer with Scherer Construction. Among the projects he helped design and complete were Lake Weatherford and Lake Graham, as well as many highways, bridges and flood control projects around the state. George eventually felt called to become an educator, and taught math, architectural drafting and mechanical drawing. He also continued to carry on the ranching tradition of his family until recent years. He was an avid outdoorsman and a devoted family man. An accomplished historian, George extensively researched Parker County history and wrote numerous papers about it. He served for many years as Chairman of the Parker County Historical Committee, and often travelled around the state for lectures. George was a member of Central Christian Church in Weatherford, where he previously served on the board of trustees and as a deacon. He also taught Sunday school classes. George's family would especially like to thank Dr. Mike Lagon, one of his dearest friends, for 35 years of compassion and friendship.
