R.D. Nelson, 83, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, surrounded by family at his residence in Weatherford. Graveside service: 11 a.m. Friday in Poolville Cemetery, N. Church St. and West Ave., Poolville. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. R.D. Nelson was born Nov. 12, 1926, in Poolville, son of the late Willis Brady and Allie McCurry Nelson. He was a member of VFW Post 4746 in Weatherford, where he was former post commander five times and National Aide-de-Camp award winner twice. R.D. retired from Robertshaw Controls. R.D. was preceded in death by his daughter, Wanda Brady; parents; brother, Nesbert Nelson; and sister, Quilla Smith. God saw him getting tired, no better would he be, so he put his arms around him and whispered, "Tex, come with me." Survivors: Wife, Virginia Peter Nelson of Weatherford; daughters, Christine Nelson of Weatherford and Shirley Groves and husband, Robert, of Long Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Eva Jean Fuqua; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
