Pansy Haney Lavender, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 15, 2010, surrounded by her family.Service: 2 P.M. Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church of Azle. Interment: New Hope Cemetery. Visitation: 5 to 7 P.M. Monday at White's Azle Funeral Home.Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund of the First Methodist Church of Azle.Pansy was born on August 17, 1917, the youngest of 16 children of Charles and Josie Haney. She graduated from Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth and had hopes of becoming a nurse. Pansy married the only man in her life, Dale Elwyn Lavender, on Christmas Day, 1935. They moved to San Diego in 1941 and they built airplanes for the duration of WWII. Upon returning to Azle after the war, they built a home on their family farm and started their family.Pansy loved being an active part of her community and church. During her life she held many positions as a volunteer and several different jobs. She was a member of the Azle Garden Club, Azle AARP Assn., Azle Sr. Citizens Assn., Rebekah Lodge of the Eastern Star, Liberty Home Demonstration Club, Peden Methodist Church, Azle Hospital Board, Harris Hospital Auxiliary, Azle Historical Museum Board, First Methodist Lord's Acre Committee, Becomers Sunday School Class, Briar Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, IRS VITA Program, Azle Library Assn., and a founding member of Tri-County REA. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Azle for over 40 years. She had several jobs throughout her life including Consolidated Aircraft, The Jefferson Home for the Disabled, Maly's Antiques and The First Bank of Azle, which she retired from in her mid-eightes.She enjoyed many hobbies. Pansy loved cooking and was featured in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram several times for her wonderful recipes. She entered crafts and food in the Fort Worth Senior Citizens Show for many years. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, playing 42, Bunco and Train with her friends, crossword puzzles, watching the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys and travel. Her favorite travel companion was her late niece, Margie Horton of Fort Worth. Pansy was preceded in death by her only son, Dale Lavender and her husband, of 38 years, Elwyn.Survivors: daughters, Debra Lavender and husband, Bill Mathis of Arlington, Doris Harrison and husband, Sam of Hurst; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nephews, great-nieces and a countless host of wonderful friends.
