Dwayne Edward Woody

Dwayne Edward Woody, a lifelong resident of Parker County and descendant of original settlers of this county, Samuel and Hannah Woody, died December 31, 2010, after a long illness. Dwayne was born May 3, 1944 to Scott and Rena Mae Woody in Fort Worth, Texas. He was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Springtown at age 13. While in high school he was active in 4H, rodeo, baseball and football. Dwayne graduated from Weatherford High School in 1962. Dwayne grew up a dairyman and a farmer, working tirelessly alongside his father, Scott. Awards the two earned together over the years were: Outstanding Soil Conservationists, by the Agricultural Extension Office of Parker County, and the Outstanding Dairy Family of the Year by the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce, for 1982-83. Dwayne applied modern technology to the dairy business when he had a Ross-Holm dairy barn built and began rotating three herds of milk cows through the barn in eight-hour shifts. The barn ran 24/7! At this point, the family business became known as WW Cattle. After many years, the business changed and Dwayne developed his own brand of feed rations, the Texas Star feed brand, which was approved by Texas A&M University. Dwayne was never formally trained in veterinary medicine but was an expert in the care of cattle and his friends and neighbors frequently sought and received his help in this area.Dwayne was an avid sports fan and was very competitive. Over the years he rode bulls, steer wrestled, water skied, and snow skied. He was particularly fond of football and baseball and enjoyed coaching his son, Shannon's baseball teams, taking one team to National's in 1981. Dwayne was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Bertha Chilcutt Stroud, and John and Stella Hotchkiss Woody, all of Springtown; his uncle Rev. James and aunt Lois Neely Stroud; uncle Lavoy and aunt Georgia Ann Woody; uncle George Earl and aunt Mary Ruth Woody Morrow; aunt Rowena Strickland Woody; uncle Johnny Woody; and uncle Raymond and aunt Rena Mae Woody Robinson. Dwayne is survived by his wife of four years, Lee Burleson Woody, her children Scottie Bryant and his son Dayton, Robert and Crisie Bryant Burns and their son Austin, Kyle Bryant his daughter Kylee and son Ayden, and Jeremy Bryant and his son Elysia.He is also survived by his parents, James Scott and Rena Mae Stroud Woody of Poolville; his children, Dwayne Shannon Woody of Arlington, Sara Laine Woody Crawford and her husband Clay, of Kingwood, Texas, and John Jacob Shyloh Woody of Ft. Worth, and their mother Sharon Jacobs Woody of Weatherford; and two grandchildren, Katherine Audrey Crawford and James Grant Crawford of Kingwood. He is survived by one uncle, Norris Woody, and one aunt, Dacey Graham Woody; his siblings, Kenneth and his wife Faye Woody and their children Mary, Bob, Scott and Janet; Frank and Marina Woody and children Lisa, Jamie, Amy, Maegan and Logan; and Sally Woody and her child Elizabeth. Dwayne had 15 grandnieces and nephews and 5 great-grandnieces and nephews. Please come and celebrate the life and times of Dwayne Woody and say a fond farewell with his family. His visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. at White's Funeral Home in Weatherford Tuesday, January 4, 2011. There will be a graveside service Wednesday, January 5, at Veal Station Cemetery beginning at 2pm.
